Procrastination is a form of Self-Sabotage

I’m not sure if this round is more about procrastination or self-sabotage. But I know this one really speaks to me because I’ve certainly done them both!

I think a lot of times the procrastination comes from a place of the fear we talked about last week. By not doing what we want to do we tell ourselves that we aren’t important. We give ourselves the message that it is OK to not go after what we want. Procrastination says sabotaging ourselves is something that is acceptable.

As a bonus, working on our procrastination can also help us overcome the fear.

Move ahead a space actions –

  1. Sit down and figure out the biggest thing that you are procrastinating on.
  2. Then think about how doing that one thing would change your life.
  3. Focus on how you would enjoy the change in your life and do that one thing.

Fear has Meaning

We looooove fear. We have a whole holiday based around the idea of fear! Go figure!

Yet, we often hide away our fears because we don’t want anyone to know about them. Hiding our fears away gives them more power.

We can move past the fear that is holding us back.

Here’s the thing about fear. Fear is really there to protect us. Fear is our brain’s way of trying to keep us safe. Which makes sense when you are facing something life-threatening. But when we are trying to accomplish something in our life doesn’t help at all. While we do have a choice sometimes to us it feels to us like we really don’t. Our brain doesn’t know the difference between a life-threatening fear or another type of fear, so we have to tell it the difference.

Move ahead a space actions –

  1. Think of a fear you have that is holding you back from moving forward?
  2. Talk to the fear. Tell it, “Thanks for trying to keep me safe. I’ve got it.”
  3. Now take a step toward that thing that you fear either a big step or a little step

Positive Thinking & Action

You have heard the idea that you have think positively if you want to move your business, life, relationship, or anything else forward. That can be daunting when you are simply not sure how to actually be positive when life seems to be sucking the living soul out of you.

But this time is going to be different for you! Here is how you can inspire positive thinking and action into your world.

So let’s get rolling –

First we need to clarify the idea of positive thinking. People take positive thinking to mean we have to be all Pollyanna and rays of sunshine all.the.freakin.time.

NOT TRUE!

Positive thinking means seeing the good and bad in situations. But also knowing that there is a way out, through, over, the issues. Understanding that the problem is just a blip on the radar of life is positive thinking.

It doesn’t matter if the glass if half full or half empty if there is a pitcher of water right next to it. (sorry whoever I stole this idea from)

Moving Forward a Space –

1. This week focus on one issue you are having with your work or personal life.

2. Examine the problem from all angles. What is good? What is bad? What can you change? What can you not?

3. Then focus on finding a way to solve the issue.

4. AND put that solution into action. It might be helpful to write out small steps you can take to solving the problem if it is a bigger issue.

If you keep having doubts about the issue, remember that you are working on solving it and that is positive thinking and positive action!
